Nation Revisited # 205 November 2023

Demographics

This picture was taken at St Mark's Church of England Primary School Kennington circa 1953. I am the little boy standing between two teachers in the back row. Note that there's not a black face in sight. Today the same school is predominately black. Such has been the transformation of parts of our country under both Labour and Tory governments since the War. Our elected representatives at Westminster congratulate themselves on turning Britain into a multiracial country, but some of us are not so sure.

Enoch Powell's nightmare vision has not come to pass; the Tiber is not foaming with much blood, nor is the Thames or the Mersey. Blacks are being promoted by the mass media at every level, from TV advertisements to police and military recruitment. Parts of our big cities are plagued with feral youths, but a respectable black middle class has emerged. And while the blacks are being pampered the Asians are quietly taking over the British Isles. The UK has an Indian prime minister, London has a Pakistani Mayor, Scotland has a Pakistani first minister, and the Republic of Ireland has an Indian Taoiseach.

We salute those immigrants who make a positive contribution to society, but we are sick of the pimps, drug dealers, and violent criminals amongst them that give the UK the largest prison population in Europe.

The Nazis brainwashed an entire generation by controlling the mass media and the same tactic is being used to corrupt the minds of our young people. Under their influence our kids are dancing to jungle drums and spouting "Critical Race Theory."

Patriots are risking their liberty and their jobs by resisting the tide of propaganda, but it would take a revolution throughout the white world to save our race and nation.

Communism and Hunger March Together - Bill Baillie
From 'Action' No 283, August 1980

The Soviet-directed war in East Africa has produced a staggering human problem. Over half a million refugees have fled the Red terror in Ethiopia to freedom and near starvation in neighbouring Somalia, where they subsist on hand-outs from the United Nations and European governments.

A similar tragedy exists in Indochina where the wretched Cambodians are plagued with two warring communist armies and overwhelming famine.

In the Caribbean thousands are prepared to risk crossing shark-infested waters on flimsy craft to escape from Fidel Castro's bankrupt Cuba. These Cuban boat-people have been pouring into the United States together with Vietnamese and ethnic Chinese from Vietnam, who have risked everything in quitting the Hanoi regime.

Adding to the sum of human misery are the Soviet Jews who continue to suffer the relentless persecution of the KGB. To appease world opinion the Soviet quota system lets out some to join relatives in the Free World, but most remain virtual captives in the USSR.

All over the world men, women and children are voting with their feet against the twin evils of communism and poverty, which despite the good intentions of Karl Marx always seem to go together.

In the West we have the temporary problem of 'over-production', butter mountains, wine lakes and the rest, but surely this is better than living under a communist system which cannot even guarantee adequate food supplies?

Communists and their sympathisers can no longer point the finger at 'capitalism' as the prime cause of want. The Reds have had over sixty years to construct their dream of a worker's paradise. Instead they have spread a path of hunger and despair round the world.

Nation Revisited: Since the Soviet Union collapsed, communism has ceased to exist, but now we are undermined by liberal democracy.

Imperfect Brexit

Seven years after the referendum there are no signs of the "Sunlit Uplands" that we were promised. The UK has just signed a trade deal with the Pacific nations, so we will be alright for coconuts, but the expected trade deal with the US never happened. Our economy has shrunk by 4%, immigration has almost doubled, and the cost of living has gone through the roof.

The Brexiteers have two answers to all this. Their first response is that it's all the fault of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. And their second excuse is that Brexit never really happened.

They claim that we had an imperfect Brexit, far removed from the noble vision of Boris Johnson that's been betrayed by 'remainers' within the Tory Party. This is the same argument that the Communists used when news of famine and poverty emerged from the Soviet Union. It was, they said, because the Revolution had been betrayed by reactionary elements within the CPSU.

Old-school Reds and Brexiteers can cling to their self-deception but the rest of us know that the laws of supply and demand trump utopian dreams of economic nationalism and free beer for all the workers.

It was an act of criminal insanity for the UK to turn her back on the biggest and most successful single market in the world. We did not regain control of our money and our borders as we were promised. Our national debt has risen to a staggering £2.6 trillion, and we have exchanged Polish workers for Pakistanis.

Since the referendum thousands of elderly Brexit supporters have popped their clogs, and the opinion polls are showing a majority for re-joining the EU. At present none of the established political parties have caught up with public opinion, but it's bound to happen eventually.

Who will be the first member of parliament to stand up and admit that he was wrong?

Overturning Capitalism

John McDonnell the former Labour Party shadow chancellor told the BBC in 2018 that it was his job to overthrow capitalism. A noble ambition but one that's easier said than done.

The French Revolution of 1789 did not cause the collapse of the Livre. It was King Louis XVI who bankrupted the country by fighting the Austrian War and supporting the rebel side in the American War of Independence. The Jacobins only made things worse by printing Assignats which were linked to land values. These promissory notes quickly became worthless and were abandoned when First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte introduced the gold Franc in 1801. France's experiment with revolutionary economics was over.

The Russian Revolution was supposed to do away with capitalism, but the first thing the Bolsheviks did when they seized power was to sell their grain harvest on the world market. They exported so much grain that they caused the Ukrainian famine of 1928. They nationalized industry and agriculture but ran them as profit-making businesses. Their trade with Germany, under the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich, filled their coffers and their state bonds were traded on the stock markets of the world. The so-called Russian Revolution was a military coup that practised old-fashioned capitalism. Its principle financier was Kuhn, Loeb & Co which eventually became Lehman Brothers and collapsed in the subprime mortgage crisis of 2008. Kuhn Loeb & Co made a lot of money out of the Russian Revolution but the Rothschilds backed the Tsar and lost a fortune.

An insight into Bolshevik thinking came when fighter pilots of the Free French Normandie-Niemen Air Force in the Soviet Union were offered cash bonuses for shooting down Luftwaffe aircraft. This capitalistic practice was apparently accepted by the Red Air Force.

The Nazi regime was as practical as the Bolsheviks. Hitler had the 'socialists' in his Party shot on the Night of the Long Knives. And guided by his Rothschild-trained Economics Minister, Hjalmar Schacht (pictured), he sold interest-bearing bonds to finance the reconstruction of the Reich. So close was Hitler to the Money Power that when he invaded Czechoslovakia, Schacht persuaded his good friend Montagu Norman, Governor of the Bank of England, to transfer the Czech gold reserves to Germany. The persecution of the Jews was driven by racism but the confiscation of Jewish property was simply theft.

Hjamar Schacht was not a member of the Nazi Party, he escaped prosecution after the war and lived to the great age of 93. Adolf Hitler blew his brains out as the Red Army stormed Berlin, and Joseph Stalin died in his bed following a purge of Jewish doctors in 1953.

But few people know their history and the myths that revolutions in France, Germany and Russia overturned capitalism persist. Capital is fundamental to society and all attempts to do away with it have failed. St Timothy stated: "the love of money is the root of all evils." And he was right. We certainly need to regulate and reform capitalism, but we can forget about confining it to "the dustbin of history."

A reply to Ron DeSantis - Sam Dickson

Dear Governor DeSantis:

Thank you for your email asking for my support.

This message will never reach your eyes - but perhaps your campaign employees will be led to remove me from your email list.

You said:

"I will never stop standing up for what I know is right - even when it goes against the grain of public opinion."

Unfortunately, that is not true.

In fact, it is the utter opposite of the truth.

You enthusiastically do what is wrong whenever you can promote yourself by currying favor with a group that might help you in your career.

You showed this a few months ago when you betook yourself to a foreign country (Israel) to sign a Florida law to criminally punish American citizens who distribute leaflets critical of Israel and the support of Israel by Jews resident in the United States.

Why sign a FLORIDA law in a FOREIGN country, Governor? (A question that needs no answer to you or anyone else).

I guess we should be grateful to you for the rare honesty you displayed in flying to Israel and affixing your signature in the glare of strobe lights to the law you sought and procured for the purpose of showing the Israeli government that you will happily serve it and put its interest ahead of your constituents' First Amendment right of freedom of speech.

Your unspeakably repulsive law elevates to a felony the misdemeanour littering offense of leaving a pamphlet on a driveway...if (and only if) the pamphlet criticizes Jews or their ethnostate in the Middle East.

If a pamphlet attacks Caucasian Americans, the Roman Catholic Church (I am not a member), the Christian religion, Southerners (I confess, I am one), gays, vegetarians or even Blacks, then the offense is only a misdemeanour. It becomes a felony only if the pamphlet criticizes Jews who are - by your choice - elevated to a special position of privilege denied to all other categories of people in our society. No other group gets this special little perk.

It goes without saying - and you know it as well as anyone - that your conduct is violating the First Amendment rights of American citizens to cater to a group of dual loyalists and the foreign nation they adore - is so appalling that any fair minded, decent American is disgusted by you.

How could anyone be so deluded as to imagine that someone whose character is as pathetically debased as yours would ever do anything for our people, their culture, their religion and our nation?

But you - with good reason -calculate that people will not see you as you really are and properly drop you from consideration once and for all.

I will never vote for you under any circumstances.

Sam Dickson

Climate Change - Vic Sarson

I am in favour always of balance and of measured behaviour.

While I never denied Climate Change, barring some misinformation and exaggeration, I have not taken the view that it is entirely man-made. That said, I do believe that we need to modify our behaviour regarding using up resources and pollution and look seriously at doing so. We have to strike a balance between 'Ecology' and 'Economy'. If we prioritise ecology, we suffer economically and vice versa. Government action needs to be fact-based and not driven by pressure groups largely made up of fanatics, political agitators, and vested interests - political or commercial. When we account for only one percent of the carbon emissions generated on the planet we should not be worried about opening a coal mine. If we fall down economically we would be less able to afford environmental protections.

I would add that throughout the era of 'climate change' oil exploration has continued and at times increased. Politicians who vent environmental rhetoric are often found to be in favour of lengthened and additional airport runways. Oil acquisition was a major factor in launching the Iraq war. In 1970 there was a TV documentary about oil supplies being about to run out and the potential impact on society and the economy that frightened a lot of people. Since then, there have been other programmes pursuing the same theme. Yet in the 1970's the Arab oil producers fought to lessen and restrict oil production and further exploration continues.

While being no fan of Rishi Sunak or the present 'government' I am fully in agreement with the five year extension to 2035 for ending the production and sale of petrol and diesel powered cars in line with the EU.

Boris Johnson in bringing the date forward by five years was simply trying to upstage the EU. His action, like all others, was ego driven.

He had no understanding of the details involved in the change of date nor the slightest concern.

Nation Revisited # 186 April 2022

What We Fight For:

When I first got interested in politics, sixty years ago, the main threat was Communism. The Soviet Union was backing guerilla armies in Asia and Africa and financing left wing movements throughout the world. Our fears were fed by American propaganda that warned of an atomic war. Eventually the threat subsided and the superpowers started talking to each other, but thirty years after the fall of the Soviet Union the Russians are still seen as the enemy. What President Eisenhower called the Military-Industrial Complex still needs Cold War hostility to stay in business. Arms sales depend on tension.

China claims to be a Communist country but it's really an authoritarian capitalist state. The Chinese have invested massively in the United States and America depends on Chinese exports. The world's two biggest economies are in fact interdependent.

The next issue was immigration. The UK simply ran out of Irishmen and was forced to look elsewhere for labour. The government found an abundant source of manpower in the West Indies, so they rushed through the British Nationality Act in 1948 to allow Commonwealth subjects to come to the UK. In those days it would have been possible to send them home with fares paid, but now there are too many here to dream of mass deportation. We haven't got the manpower, the ships, the planes, or the determination, and there's no guarantee that their homelands would take them back.

At the same time we realised that the Empire was disintegrating; India became independent in 1947 and  decolonisation was in progress when prime minister Harold Macmillan made his famous "Winds of Change" speech in Capetown in 1960. His speech was recieved with outrage, but he was only speaking the truth. Within a decade the empire on which the Sun never set was no more.

So, if Communism is a dead duck, immigration is a done deal, and the Empire has passed into history, what exactly are we fighting for? The answer is a complete reform of the capitalist system.  Companies that make an honest profit and treat their workers with respect should be encouraged, but the exploiters must be closed down.

It's widely held that the Jews are responsible, but some of the worst capitalists are to be found in China and the Gulf States, where Jews are few in number. International capitalists don't belong to any particular race or religion. Bill Gates of Microsoft is an American of Scots and Irish heritage. Zong Shanshan, the richest man in China, has amassed a fortune of $77.5 billion by selling mineral water and Chinese medicine. And King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud is reputedly worth trillions of dollars. But none of them are Jewish. There are certainly many rich and influential Jews, especially in Europe and the US, but the Shylock model is out-of-date.

The UK is a G7 nation with a high standard of living but millions of our people are living in poverty. The gap between rich and poor is unacceptable. We must build a better Britain where housing, health and education are freely available. And we must reject the worst aspects of capitalism, such as the disgraceful 'Fire and Rehire' policy inflicted on the P&O seamen. Such a  change in society would involve tax breaks for parents and generous allowances for children. It would allow fathers to support their families and mothers to raise their children properly instead of letting them roam the streets.

We are grateful to America for helping us during the two world wars, but we must stand on our own feet, take pride in our achievements, and protect our European culture.

We fight for; national pride, cultural survival, social equality, and regulated capitalism.

Vic Sarson

Yes, for many the twenties were hard but the thirties, following the Wall Street crash, were even harder; my father (1900-1976) remembered those days well. The average industrial weekly wage was £1.50 until1938 when war preperations took off. Coincident with that the country went through a period of deflation where prices of goods went down by as much as 25%. That may sound good but deflation, especially when so dramatic a drop, is as bad for the economy as the very high inflation we experienced during the 1970s.

Regarding the war, the cost of a new Spitfire was £20,000, £8,000 for a Hurricane. Training a pilot was £5,000. Government expediture was £1 million per day at the beginning and £3 million by the end. The state of emergency of course was not rescinded until the late Autumn of 1947.

What The Papers Say

In 2005 a new book was published in Britain concerning racial issues. Normally such publications are either an anti-racist rant or a socialogical treatise so boring that bus timetables are more stimulating. This one was different: called The New East End and authored by Geoff Dench, Kate Gavron and Michael Young. In parts it was a quasi-honest attempt to explain what happened to White East London over a 25 year period, circa 1980-2005. Media headlines about this book were interesting: 'Labour's Love Lost, 'London's East End - The Simmering Pot', 'Ignored, Angry and Anxious; The World of The White Working Class'. Candour, August-Sept 2021. www.candour.org.uk

So, why are we heading for a national crisis? Aside from Covid, there are three key areas. The migration crisis, the looming health crisis, and the cost of living. Those three will trump everything during the coming year. Already we are being told if you want a hip operation, wait another year or go private. The NHS simply can't cope because there are now twenty million more people waiting to use it -  due to post-war Tory and Labour immigration policies - than it was built for. Heritage and Destiny, Jan - Feb 2022  www.heritageanddestiny.com

Our congratulations to the Danish government for their positive action in taking back their Homeland from foreign invaders. A government spokesman outlined Denmark's new approach to the invaders is: "genuine asylum seekers should register in the first safe country they reach after leaving their war-torn homelands. This is often Italy or Greece. If they attempt to move to Denmark or Great Britain they lose their asylum seekers  status and simply become economic migrants." Congratulations also to the Social Democrat prime minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, who said: "Denmark will aim to have zero asylum seekers." League Sentinel, Autumn 2021. www.leaguestgeorge.org

This series (Ridley Road) is based on the 2016 novel by Jewish author Jo Bloom which glorifies the actions in the early 1960s of the violent anti-fascist organisation the '62 Group'. This BBC adaptation is not historically accurate. The portrayal of the character of Colin Jordan by the actor Rory Kinnear is highly negative and not historically accurate nor is the depiction of the NSM and its activist off-shoot the Spearhead. Enlightened Brexiteers

My attitude to Europe is straight forward. I believe in a united Europe and I see the EU as a step in that direction. Those nationalist groups derived from the National Front are anti-European but there are individuals within them that are in favour of European solidarity. Unfortunately the two examples that spring to mind have recently passed away, but there must be others who share their views.

John Bean was a member of the British Democratic Party which is firmly pro-Brexit, but he believed in a European Confederation which is surely what the EU is; a union of sovereign states bound together by treaty.

Richard Edmonds spoke French and German and travelled frequently to the Continent. He finished his days in the National Front but although he belonged to a pro-Brexit party he never shared their outdated petty nationalism.

I am not the only one to notice this change. Robert Best wrote two years ago:

"Michael Walsh McLoughlin is far more pro-Mosley than he was in the 1970s/80s British Movement, so is Stephen Frost (BM national secretary) and Richard Edmonds (NF) - who all used to support Leese!"

As Brexit unravels the British public will realise that they have been conned. None of Boris Johnson's promises have been kept: immigration is out-of-control, prices are rising, labour shortages are crippling the economy, and the Northern Ireland problem is unresolved.

If the little parties of the far-right want to be taken seriously they must abandon the dogma of the past and accept the revision of public opinion. As the great economist John Maynard Keynes said: "When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, Sir."

The French National Rally (Rassemblement National)  formerly the National Front, used to be against the EU and the euro, but they have realised that although the French electorate support them on immigration they are turned off by anti-European rhetoric. Public opinion in France is similar to the UK, but the majority are Remainers. Marin Le Pen (pictured) proposed the rebranding of the party and the change of policy. She announced in 2021 that she wanted to stay in the Schengen Area citing: "an attachment to the European spirit."

Making Money

One of the most cherished misconceptions of the far-right is that banks are all powerful. They are certaily greedy and unsympathetic but they are subject to the rules of commerce and, without government intervention, some of them would fail. If the banks could have created money out of nothing Lehman Brothers and Northern Rock would not have gone broke.

It's true that they lend money in excess of their reserves but since the financial crisis of 2008 governments all over the world have introduced Capital Requirements to prevent overtrading.

The British Government raises money in addition to taxation by selling interest-bearing bonds, mostly to insurance companies and pension funds. Only 27% of bonds are sold to overseas investors, the vast majority go to British buyers.

When the Subprime Mortgage crisis crossed the Atlantic in 2008 the Government lent the banks £137 billion to stop them from failing. This was criticised at the time but a banking collapse would have been catastrophic for the economy. This vast sum of money is being paid back with interest, and when the transaction is complete the Government will have made a profit.

The same system is being used to compensate companies and individuals affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. Our Chancellor Rishi Sunak has been praised for his generosity but he did not become a billionaire by giving money away. Every penny will have to be paid back.

There is nothing mysterious about the banking industry, no dark arts are involved and bankers are not part of some monstrous conspiracy.

Usury is universally condemned but few things are free in the real world. Banks take a calculated risk when they lend money and they have legitimate expenses like any other business; rents, salaries, pensions, insurance, and taxes must be paid which is why they charge for their services. It's important that interest rates are strictly controlled but it would achieve nothing to hang all the bankers; except to please their bloodthirsty detractors.

The Money Power consists of huge international corporations like Microsoft and Google, and policy makers like George Soros or Klaus Schuab, that use their influence to control so-called sovereign states; the banks are only part of it.

A Century of Change

The world has changed almost beyond recognition in the last hundred year but we can trace these changes back to their beginnings.

Cressida Dick the lesbian head of London's Metropolitan Police was recently sacked by Sadiq Khan the Muslim Mayor of London supported by Priti Patel the Hindu Home Secretary. A hundred years ago there were few Asians in the UK but our first Indian MP, Dadabhai Naoraji, was elected to represent Finsbury in central London in 1892. The first female police officer, Edith Smith, joined the force in Lincolnshire in 1915. Homosexuality was illegal in the UK until 1967 but lesbianism was permitted. The Covid 19 pandemic has swept the world killing thousands and wrecking national economies. But this is not the first time that we have faced such an emergency. The Spanish Flu pandemic during and after the First World War killed more people than the War itself. Like Covid it took about two years to run its course.

Microsoft and Google have announced record profits. Radio broadcasting started in the UK in 1920 when the Marconi station 2MT went on the air from Chelmsford, Essex. Television followed in 1936 when the BBC began broadcasting from Alexander Palace in London. Computers were developed during the Second World War, notably by Alan Turing, and the Internet was invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989.

The Civil War between the Whites and the Bolsheviks was raging in Russia and Ukraine in 1922. Some of the Ukrainians wanted a separate state but they were incorporated into the Soviet Union.

The pace of change over the last hundred years has been rapid. American brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright flew their first primitive airplane in 1903 in North Carolina. Eight years later Italian pilots were bombing Turkish targets in Libya. British officers Allcock and Brown made the first transatlantic flight in 1919. The Russians launched their first Sputnik in 1957 aboard an R7 rocket designed by Sergei Korelev. The Americans reached the Moon in 1969 and astronaut Neil Armstrong said: "that's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

It seems that there's no limit to human achievements. I wonder what will happen in the next hundred years?

Nation Revisited # 185 March 2022

Gordon Callow

Nick Griffin on Twitter 25 March 2021:

"A very belated appreciation of Gordon Callow, brave veteran of Union Movement, the NF and BNP, who I have only just heard died in January. Also known as Tom, together with his brother Brian (who later moved to Cumbria & campaigned with me for the EP) he was a stalwart patriot."

Tom died in January 2021 at a care home in Southend, Essex. I don't know his date of birth but he must have been in his eighties. His political activities covered a  lifetime. He was jailed together with John Bean in 1959 for his part in the St Pancras Town Hall Riot, and, over forty years later, he stood as a candidate for the BNP in the 2002 local election on the Isle of Dogs. He was a brave and determined patriot who never gave up the fight.

John Millican, the author of 'Mosley's Men in Black' writes:      "I only met him a couple of times, once at his home in Brick Lane. I think his parents were BU and he told me that they lived just around the corner from the Ilford BU offices."

May he rest in peace.

The Law Of The Jungle: Vic Sarson

Foreign and alien attitudes towards women and girls have been imported into Britain by the liberal establishment. Feminism, another manifestation of liberalism, has played a large part in this. The notion that a young female can walk about at night provocatively attired and going to venues containing lots of sexually aroused men expecting to be safe the whole of the time, and by right, is too absurd for words. There is no such thing as a 'human right'. If someone is big and strong enough to knock us down and take our possessions he has the natural right to do so. Might is Right after all. It has nothing to do with decency or morality it is the law of nature, of the swamp, of the jungle.

But man is a social animal evolved into societies where the individual is protected by law. Without organised society there would be no framework of laws. For the law to work for the benefit of us all requires individuals to understand and comply with it; such as modesty of dress and deportment  by unaccompanied women. Those that do not comply are an affront to us all. So many respectable women are paying the price as a consequence. According to the Office of National Statistics reports of rape in England and Wales in 2021 have risen by 8% to 61,158.

Remembering the Empire

Defenders of the British Empire point to the railways, schools, hospitals, courts of justice, police forces, and parliaments that we established around the world. Critics of the Empire remember the Irish famine, the concentration camps in South Africa, and the Bengal famine. The Empire was undoubtedly a force for progress, but it was also a ruthless capitalist enterprise.

Our museums and bank vaults are full of looted or dubiously acquired  treasures; Benin Bronzes, Elgin Marbles, Australian Aboriginal bones, and fabulous diamonds from India and South Africa.  And our war graves are full of British and colonial soldiers who died for the Empire.

In 1932 an Imperial Conference was held in Ottowa to set up a free trade agreement between Britain and the Dominions. This was unsuccessful because Britain wanted to supply all the manufactured goods in return for raw materials, but the Dominions wanted to develop their own industries. The Conference established the principle of 'Imperial Preference' but it never really got going. Nevertheless this failed policy is still the dream of the Brexit supporters.

The begining of the end came in 1942 when General Percival surrendered the British garrison at Singapore to the Japanese under General Yamashita. And the end came when our expeditionary force was ordered out of Suez by a furious American president in 1956.

We soldiered on with colonial wars in Malaya, Kenya, Cyprus and Aden but everyone knew that the game was up. We  achieved a famous victory in the Falklands in 1982 but it was too late to make any difference.

In 1965 I embarked on a five year Commonwealth tour that convinced me that the White Dominions were going their separate ways. I concluded that we must maintain our historic links with the Anglosphere but our future lies in Europe. Today, we are a post-imperial power divorced from the Continent and stuck in the past. As Brexit unravels we will see the folly of our decision to go-it-alone, but we will not face reality until the post-war baby boomers have passed away. We were the last generation to live under the British Empire. I may not live to see us rejoin the EU, but I have no doubt that it will happen. Apart from the economic advantages, we are too close to  Europe in terms of history, geography and culture to stay outside.

The Yellow Peril

Chinese people started coming to the UK in the 19th century as refugees from the Opium War. 140,000 Chinese were recruited by the British government as labourers for the army in the First World War. After the war survivors from the Chinese Labour Corps were repatriated to China but an unknown number settled in the UK. In those politically incorrect days this migration was known as the 'Yellow Peril'.

We now have over 400,000 Chinese according to the 2011 census. This does not include Vietnamese, Koreans and related races. The British government expects 320,000 Hong Kongers to come here by 2026, but over 5 million are eligible under the British National (Overseas) visa scheme.

The Chinese are industrious and intelligent folk who are an asset to the UK, but do we really need another five million of them? We are already struggling to accomodate millions of Africans and Asians; we simply don't have the houses and facilities for them.

Our government looks on the Hong Kong immigrants as refugees because Beijing is integrating Hong Kong into China. But we cannot possibly take in everybody who is trying to escape from an authoritarian regime.

The UN High Commission for Refugees estimates there are 50 million displaced people in the world. These poor souls are the victims of war, famine, oppression, and poverty. Their numbers are being swelled by climate change as oceans rise and deserts spread. We can help them with trade deals and foreign aid but we can't welcome them to our overcrowded island.

The 'Mother Bountiful' attitude of the British government is another case of imperial nostalgia. We sent missionaries and colonial administrators all over the world to preach the Gospel and fill the heads of the natives with nonsensical propaganda about the wealth and power of the Motherland. They can hardly be blamed for coming here to see it for themselves.

War in Europe

The war between Russia and Ukraine is a tragedy; a war between fellow Europeans that should not have happened. We hope and pray that the peace talks now in progress will succeed.

When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine were cut off from the Motherland. This has resulted in the current conflict.

President Vladimir Putin is vilified in the West as a dictator and an imperialist, but he was democratically elected and his support for the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine is only to be expected.

Under the Soviet Union it made no difference if the disputed regions were in Russia or Ukraine because they both belonged to the same political entity. On a smaller scale, it doesn't matter if Monmouth is in England or Wales, or if Berwick-on-Tweed is in Scotland or England, because they are all in the United Kingdom.

The regime of former comedian Volodymr Zelensky resulted from the coup of 2014 which deposed the elected president Viktor Yanukovych. Zelensky imposed the Language Law which promoted the Ukrainian language over the Russian language and reduced the Russian-speaking population to the status of second class citizens.

The West is sending military aid to Ukraine and waging economic warfare against Russia, but much of Europe is dependent on Russian gas from Nordstream 1, and the UK is the recipient of massive Russian investment. We had a similar performance in 2014 when Crimea was annexed by Russia, but realpolitik prevailed.

The Russian Federation is self-sufficient in food and has massive reserves of gas and oil. Despite sanctions, countries in need of fuel will continue to buy from Russia. The West will encourage the Saudis to increase production but they are unlikely to do so because it would reduce prices.

We should remember that in WW11 the Russians defeated the largest invasion force in history. They are not likely to be beaten by the loss of Starbucks and McDonalds.

Sam Dickson

One quick point to add to your article on the failure of White nationalist, identity politics in the UK (and also in the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand - the entire English-speaking world).

I believe two very important factors in the failure of English speaking societies to generate such policies are:

1) The illusion of victory in the world wars;

2) The (false) sense of continuity.

Other people have had to recognise the reality of defeat. Our people have not. They think they won two great victories in World Wars 1 and 11. They really didn't because neither war was in the best interest of our people but they don't see that. They just see "victory."

The other factor is the false sense of continuity. There has not been a revolution in Great Britain since 1689 when James 11 was toppled.

There has not been a revolution in the US since the war for independence 250 years ago (and it wasn't really a revolution but merely a war for independence).

The reality is that there have been huge and often negative changes in our governments.

Lincoln represented the death of the early American republic. The war with Spain in 1898 was a terrible departure from the sensible isolationist policy recommended by Washington. Wilson and Roosevelt all meant revolutionary change.

Likewise, in Britain the government today bears only superficial resemblance to to the government 150 years ago. But in all our countries the English-speaking people don't recognise these changes.

Superficially, there has been unbroken continuity. There is still a President in the White House, a House of Representatives, a Senate, a Supreme Court and various States in America.

There is still a monarch in Buckingham Palace, a House of Commons and a House of Lords in Great Britain.

A man who lived to the age of 100 in Berlin from 1900 to 2000 (and some people do live that long) lived under a monarchy, a socialist republic, the National Socialist racial state, the Communist "Democratic" Republic and a liberal democracy. Five different governments in one lifetime. No one in the English-speaking world has had that experience.

George's Travels

Many years ago I knew a man called George who claimed to have been abducted by space aliens. He was the father of my step-daughter's school friend. A civil servant who always wore a suit and kept his shoes polished. He was a respectable citizen who upheld the law and supported the Conservative Party. The only remarkable thing about him was his claim of interplanetary travel. According to his story he had been captured by a beam of light emited from a flying saucer. The aliens turned out to be Venusians. They treated him kindly and took him back to Venus where he was made welcome by the Venusian Emperor. Unfortunately, Venus was subject to frequent raids by Martians who came looking for slaves. And during such a raid George was captured by the Martians and taken to Mars. The Martians were as cruel as the Venusians were kind. They subjected him to all kinds of torture until he confessed to being a spy. He was sentenced to death and taken to the main square of the Martian capital city to be publicly executed. But his friends from Venus came to his rescue in the nick of time. He was beamed up by a Venusian flying saucer which delivered him safely back to Earth.

I asked George, as politely as possible, how long the whole experience had lasted. He said it was more than two years but the Venusians could control time, so his family and his employers never missed him. He added that the wounds inflicted by the Martians had all disppeared as a result of Venusian medical care.

I should have advised him to see a doctor but I didn't want to upset the girls. So I said nothing and listened to his outrageous story. And that is the enigma, how can an apparently normal man believe in such nonsense?

With the coming of the Internet space travellers now have their own websites, often shared with those who believe that the world has been taken over by lizards, and, most recently by the anti-vaccinators who think that the Coronavirus is a conspiracy by Bill Gates and his alleged Satanic Paedophile Ring.  It's wrong to mock the afflicted, but we shouldn't listen to their nonsense, or believe anything seen on social media without checking it. I once reported the death of David Myatt because it had been posted on Facebook, but David is alive and well.

Any prescribed medication will have at least one critical website devoted to it. According to the conspiracy theorists 'Big Pharma' is trying to kill us all.

We live in the age of misinformation.
